Messy watercolor profile face
To me, watercolor paintings seem pretty hard hard to complete, especially because I don’t care for the rules, but still I am working with watercolors which are transparent and need extra care when it comes to layering color. But I’m working in an art journal, so I’m not worrying too much. So today I basically wanted to draw a…

Purple pen face sketch
Today I’m back in my Canson Art book one sketching art journal. I started this face as a play, sketching it with a purple pen I carry around in my hand bag all the time. And because it started to look beautiful, I had to add some color, too. Part of her face was painted with acrylics, like her neck and certain areas on her forehead, and some of the face was painted in watercolors, like her cheeks.

The junk journal project – diving intuition mixed media portrait
*****The junk journal is a dear project of mine I’ve wrote about here. Some people are afraid to draw faces. I can see that and perfectly understand it because as weird at this may seem, I am myself ‘afraid’ that if I try abstract/intuitive paintings will not come as beautiful as I want them to be. But that doesn’t meant I won’t try, because I have already planned this for May this year. For example, Daisy Yellow never paints portraits. Her art journal pages are a mix of color splashed together with no particular intend: using bright and vivid colors she creates a fairy tale atmosphere. Maybe I can relate…

Pencil sketch – Girl with flying hair
Once in a while I really feel I want to use just a pencil and my paper stump to draw a face. So this is how I’ve started drawing this face. It doesn’t have a real correspondent and I took her out of my imagination and into the paper of my Canson One Art Book journal. Of course I wanted to color her at first, but then when I saw how gorgeous she has become just by using the graphite pencil, I decided to leave it as is and call it done.

What are the eyes for you – mixed media journal page
I’ve drew this journal page in stages a while ago sometime last year. It started as a page where I was trying new handmade foam stamps and smudging acrylic paint left from working on other pages. You can really see the stave (stamp) showing through the acrylic. This is more of a typical journal page, where you draw or paint different parts of the face or just details of items – and…
