The painted beauty

In wonder by Cristina Parus @ creativemag.ro

There’s really nothing better than drawing and painting a face in your journal. That, of course, if you like painting faces, otherwise…Anyway, I decided I should use more my mixed media paper (from Canson) so I grabbed one page and started to draw something. To tell you the true, I can’t remember what it was at first, but I guess was just another…face. 🙂 Yeah….it didn’t go as well as I expected, so I used warm grey and beige acrylics to cover that up. And then the Inktense went into action…

Nimic nu-i mai placut decat sa desenezi si sa pictezi o fata in jurnal. Asta, bineinteles, daca-ti place sa pictezi fete, altfel…

In early stages, her face wasn’t looking that sad and melancholic, but somewhere on the road it changed to what is now the final result. It’s probably something with my style lately, I tend to paint sad faces and I really don’t know why is that, I just let them come to life without questioning why and how. They just appear right in front of my eyes.

In stadiile initiale, fata ei nu arata atat de trista si melancolica, dar undeva pe drum s-a transformat in ceea ce acum e rezultatul final. Pur si simplu aceste fete apar in fata ochilor mei.

This intermediar stage is always kinda weird looking: At least now I can say her look is rather dreamy than melancholic, but it depends on the eye of the viewer now.. Her hair was made using very little green acrylic paint mixed up with white acrylic and an INKtense green pencil. I’ve also added a little bit of yellow, as at first I thought she should have blonde hair, but I ended up showing more green and blue than yellow.

In the end, I had to correct the shape of her lips, they were not properly aligned with the rest of the face. As for the background, there is no watercolor involved in the process, as you may think, just yellow acrylic with lots of water and splashes of POSCA markers before that even got the chance to dry. Do I love her? It’s a little bit different from the rest of my girls, especially for the “painterly” effect on her cheeks. I think I really love this rough approach.

Now it’s your turn! What have you been painting today?

Acum e randul tau! Ce-ai mai pictat azi?

Pe curand,
Cristina
