Why I draw whimsical faces

Well, what’s with all these imaginary characters (whimsical faces)? They are a free and unhampered expression, with no expectations regarding the final result and certainly a practice very relaxing to me.

And you probably wonder why I like to draw whimsical faces and what’s all about them. The truth is that all started back in 2012 when I did an online class with Andrea Gomoll. This was only the beginning and soon I started to realize I can draw almost everything I want, be it real or imaginary. So I started to search more over the internet about whimsical faces and discovered all kind of blogs. I saw many drawing and painting styles, I’ve tried those who were appealing to me and inevitably I came back over and over again to one in particularly: my own style. Over the years I have developed a drawing and painting style, a certain way of filling in the pages with color and expressing myself through art.

Why I really love to draw from imagination:

  • I don’t have to follow any model
  • I let all come to me from my imagination
  • The face doesn’t “have” to be in a certain manner
  • There is no pressure about the final result, and that is why there is no stress
  • I don’t have to follow strict rules regarding the proportions and shapes – my girls can have disproportionate features
  • It allows me to be a child again: I don’t need to create a masterpiece, I just enjoy the process!
  • Whimsical girls will look just the way you want them to, because they are your creations, born from your own imagination!

De ce desenez fete whimsical?

Ei bine, ce-i cu toate aceste personaje imaginare (fete whimsical)?

Horns and wings / Coarne si aripi

Some of the girls have horns or….wings. Some appear to be rather timid, others are very mysterious. Anyways, they are unique and every time I look at them I remember the moment I drew them.

So what’s on your art journal today?

Asadar, ce-ai desenat azi in art jurnalul tau?

Pe curand,
Cristina
